Join us for the next UU Humanist Forum on October 9 at 7 PM. The forum will focus on the last chapter of the book “Humanly Possible: Seven Hundred Years of Humanist Freethinking, Inquiry, and Hope” by Sarah Bakewell. A copy of the last chapter of the book is available here. Kris Breckman will offer a presentation, followed by small group discussion.
We encourage you to read the entire book (373 pages). It adds personality, vitality, and connection to the many individuals who are prominent in the evolution of humanism. Several copies of the book, as well as the audio book, are available through the Winnipeg Public Library. It can also be purchased at McNally Robinson for $25.95 or from Amazon (Kindle version $14.00, paperback 25.99). It would be a precious asset to your library.
An excellent interview with the author is available at: CBC radio writers and company. There is a brief summary of the interview plus an option to listen to the entire program, something that is very worthwhile.
There are several videos on Youtube featuring Sarah Bakewell. Two examples are: “Sarah Bakewell on the Enduring Influence of Humanist thought – from the Renaissance to Today” and Sarah Bakewell on “Humanism and the Power of Connection.”
Please add this date to your calendar and join in an evening of stimulating ideas and discussion with other free-thinkers.
These forums provide humanist perspectives on various thought-provoking topics which foster open-minded discussions and intellectual exploration, encouraging critical thinking and reflection.
