Something Way Down Deep – There was a time when “All Souls Church” was a popular name for Unitarian and Universalist congregations – perhaps the most popular. Winnipeg home to a congregation bearing this name, and we still have several All Souls Churches in the U.S., although none remain in Canada. This label was inclusive and expansive at the same time, an aspiration as much as a reality. But what is a soul? And what does the word mean to religious liberals, then and now? In Thornton Wilder’s play, Our Town, the protagonist Emily proclaims, “There’s something way down deep that’s eternal about every human being.” Our use of the word soul points to that something.
The Choir will sing.
Daylight savings time ends: fall back one hour.
