The Canadian show Heated Rivalry has taken the world by storm. It is in the top 10 most watched shows in 25 countries. It is the story of two male professional hockey players, one from Russia and one from Canada, who begin a secret sexual relationship that, over the course of 8 years, turns into love. Parts of the show are sexually explicit, but over the course of six episodes it becomes clear that much more important and universal themes are at its heart. It has developed a huge fan base, and people of all ages, backgrounds, sexual orientations, and genders have cheered on the main characters as they find their way to each other.
Angela Haig and her friend Margerit Roger will each reflect upon why the show is important to them. They will present their own perspective as one straight woman and one lesbian, contemplating romance without patriarchy and the courage it takes to be visible.
