Belonging

people and children with hands together in a circle

As humans, we have a deep-seated need to belong – to someone, somewhere, something, at least sometimes. We seek out communities, both formal and informal ones, and when they matter to us, we may desire a deeper quality of relationship. We strive to be members and not just consumers of community and the social relationships communities offer, which begs the question, why does membership matter?

Centering Thought

“Because true belonging only happens when we present our authentic, imperfect selves to the world, our sense of belonging can never be greater than our level of self-acceptance.”

Unison Words

“As we set aside this time for quiet, may we hear the heart-felt whisperings of our spirit, and also that of others. May those who share from their hearts today feel the power of our attention and the strength of our love. May we all feel uplifted by words of comfort, and be supported by the presence of our caring community.”
