Fall 2022 Programs

The following programs are in the works as of mid-August.

Church Picnic September 11

Are you ready for a church picnic?  Mark Sept. 11 on your calendar for a rejuvenating time together. Bring a picnic lunch and a lawn chair, and we’ll move to the grounds after the Sunday service. The upper deck at the top of the stairs is reserved for participants with mobility issues. Please contact Doreen at 204-792-1923 if you have questions.

In the event of inclement weather, the picnic will be held in the sanctuary at noon. Limited cold storage is available in the fridge.

Let’s enjoy the magnificent river view, a bit of live music, and celebrate being back together again at the church!

Meditation Group

Join UUs for group meditation and discussion twice monthly. The Meditation Group restarts Monday, September 19 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. This is a self-directed group, open to all church members and friends regardless of meditation experience.

Last year, volunteers from the group facilitated sessions including:

  • how meditating to music transforms us
  • inviting love into our lives; finding and sharing joy
  • widening the gap, the space between thoughts
  • gratitude and random acts of kindness

Stay tuned to all-church emails for details.

Activism with Joy

Here’s a lesson from activists on working for change while holding onto joy.

In ‘The Lightmaker’s Manifesto’, Karen Walrond helps us name the skills, values and actions that bring us joy; identify the causes that spark our empathy and concern; and then put it all together to change the world. She shares activists’ fascinating stories from near and far, which demonstrate positive ways of making change.

Author Karen Walrond is a lawyer, leadership coach, photographer and activist. She has travelled world-wide and serves on the board of the Houston Coalition Against Hate.

A four-week book study on ‘The Lightmaker’s Manifesto’ offered by The Adult Programming Committee (APC) begins Wed. evening Oct. 19. Co-facilitators will be Shannon Breckman and Sonya Watson. The book is currently available for purchase at McNally Robinson or through Amazon.ca. Haven’t read the book? Excerpts will be provided for discussion.

Our goal is to offer a hybrid model of in-person and Zoom participation, yet to be confirmed. Please register by leaving your name, email and phone number at adultprograms@uuwinnipeg.mb.ca. Thanks.
