at 7 PM for the UU Humanist Forum
Humanism stresses the human capacity for reason and compassion. The speaker at the February Forum, Steven Holborn, a retired psychology professor at the University of Manitoba, will apply these concepts in his presentation BEHAVIOR THERAPY: WHAT IT IS AND HOW I DID IT.
His presentation will focus on:
➢ Describing and distinguishing behavior therapy and applied behavior analysis;
➢ Introducing basic behavioral terms, concepts, and principles plus clarifying common misconceptions;
➢ Describing behavioral assessment and distinguishing it from traditional psychological and psychiatric assessment;
➢ Identifying methods of behavioral assessment
➢ Using every-day examples, and anonymous case examples from my clinical files, to illustrate the value of a behavioral approach
➢ Cases may include problems with phobias; obsessive compulsive disorder; insomnia; headaches; hallucinations; oral hygiene; behavioral problems of children in primary schools, etc.
These forums provide humanist perspectives on various thought-provoking topics which foster open-minded discussions and intellectual exploration, encouraging critical thinking and reflection.
Refreshments will be provided. We hope to see you there!
