March is Stewardship Month
As Canadian Unitarian Universalists, our interdependence calls us to love and justice.
We aspire to be: Deeply Connected, Radically Inclusive, Actively Engaged,
Spiritually Grounded and Theologically Alive
How do you connect with First UU of Winnipeg? Are you a long-term member? A new-comer? Are you a parent of youth and children in OWL or RE? Are you a member of the Young Adults? An elder? Are you one of our many fabulous volunteers? Are you finding connection and support through our Pastoral Care Team’s initiatives? Do you find shared concerns about social and environmental justice and opportunities for acting together? Are you finding a welcome and sense of community in our midst?
Each year, we reach out to you for another kind of connection…the financial support to continue the many ways we minister to one another and to the wider community. The Annual Stewardship Pledge Appeal is the first step in making financial resources available for the coming year’s budget. Of course, Stewardship is part of our church’s life all year round, as we serve together to compost, recycle and re-use, offer hospitality, teach our children, share money in the weekly offering and so much more. Our annual pledges, given in March, allow the Finance Committee and the Board to plan for staffing, programs, mortgage and maintenance for the next year.
Entering our third year of settled ministry with Rev. Meghann Robern and Lifespan Faith Development directed by Andrea James, we are forging new paths in our life as a vibrant, growing congregation. We plan more opportunities for everyone, especially newcomers, to make meaningful connections and to deepen their faith: “Creating Theology Together”, small covenant groups which rotate participants, expanding our hospitality from Sunday morning to other all-church events and additional child care so that parents can access church activities. Also included in our Operating Budget will be funds to maintain our status as a fair compensation employer and an increase in mortgage costs for much needed improvements to our property. These exciting plans for programming, payroll and mortgage would require about a 12% increase in revenue for 2019/20.
The message of our Pledge Appeal this year centers around the Five Aspirations of the Canadian Unitarian Council Vision Statement – stressing our interdependence as Unitarian Universalists in Canada and world-wide as we seek love and justice for our world.
With your support, we can pursue our aspirations to be deeply connected, inclusive, engaged, grounded and alive.
