From the Minister's Study September 2018

Welcome, my beloveds, to year two of our shared ministry!

What is exactly is shared ministry, you may be asking yourself? It is one of the fundamentals at the heart of our congregational structure -- that we are a community that is self-governed and self-sustained. You called me to be your minister so we could, in partnership, fulfill that promise offered by a group of people who freely choose to be together: to share values, to share support, and to create something that changes lives.

And one of the most important parts of congregational policy and shared ministry is that the minister cannot make it all happen on their own. The Board cannot make it happen all on their own. And, engaging in the shared ministries of the church is one of the easiest and most immediate ways to live into our seven principles and share values. But what are all the various ministries of this congregation?

This month you have special opportunity to explore for yourself. The Shared Ministry Team is sponsorship a committee and team fair on Sunday, September 23rd right after worship. Stay for a bite to eat and explore the tables set up by the many groups that keep our community thriving -- each one is a ministry of the church, because each team contributes to the whole. Folks will be there to answer questions you might have about what they do and how they serve. Rumour has it some groups may even have some goodies to give away just for stopping by!

One of the best things for me about being Unitarian Universalist is how we embrace curiosity and learning. This event is the perfect chance for each of us to dig a little deeper into this place, this chosen family, that we call our spiritual home -- a chance not just to learn where we might find ministries that feed us, but also to learn about which ministries excite the people who sit next to us on any given Sunday morning.

I hope you’ll join us on September 23rd.

In gratitude and faith,

Rev. Meghann
