First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg
Policy on Member Ceremonies of Significance

There is no charge for church members who receive the services of the minister for a wedding, child dedication, or funeral/memorial service. Lay chaplains are not authorized to perform member ceremonies of significance unless by prior arrangement with the minister.

While there is no charge for use of the main floor of the church building in connection with a member ceremony of significance, the space must be booked through the Rentals Director and fees will be charged to cover staffing for the event. Use of the Pine Tree Room and backyard during weddings is possible, but by prior agreement with the Rentals Director.

For funerals or memorial services

A flat fee of $150 will be charged to cover the cost of Rentals Staff (one or two will be in attendance, depending on projected size of the event.) This fee will cover sanctuary setup and takedown, sound system staffing, and a presence in the building to receive same-day deliveries of food, flowers, and other items for use during the service or reception. It also will allow for the family to be welcomed into the building prior to the service, and to linger at service's end.

Family should arrange for a caterer who provides a staff person, coffee and tea, brings cups and plates, and is responsible for all clean up connected to refreshments. Families who, for financial reasons, are not able to hire a caterer, are invited to explore other options with the minister.

Family should also arrange for ushers/greeters, either by using staff from the funeral home or by covering this task themselves.

Should the family wish an accompanist, the minister can recommend possible musicians. The accompanist's fee should be negotiated with and would be payable directly to the accompanist.

For weddings and child dedications

A fee will be charged to cover the cost of Rentals Staff (one or two will be in attendance, depending on projected size of the event.) An estimate will be provided by the Rentals Director at the time of the booking, although the actual amount will only be confirmed once the event is over. This fee will cover staffing during decoration of the building, sanctuary setup and takedown, sound system staffing, and a presence in the building to receive same-day deliveries of food, flowers, and other items for use during the service or reception. Staff presence to receive deliveries outside of regular business hours will need to be negotiated with the Rentals Director and staffing costs will be added to the total. Regular rental policies regarding overtime still apply.

For rehearsals, unless the minister is present, an additional flat rate of $50 for two hour access to the church will be charged. Any hours in addition to this two hour time will incur additional costs and must be negotiated with the Rentals Director.

The couple should arrange for a caterer who provides their own staff, beverages, cups and plates and utensils, and is responsible for all clean up connected to refreshments.

Should the family wish an accompanist, the minister can recommend possible musicians. The accompanist's fee should be negotiated with and would be payable directly to the accompanist.
